Introducing: Rosa Gomez

Can you describe your career at BV?

I joined BV in 2007 as a technical reviewer for BRCGS and IFS standards. I quickly started handling all the standards that were part of BV Spain’s portfolio, including ISO 22000 and GLOBALG.A.P., and all accreditations related to food standards.

After a few years, I was appointed as lead on food standards accredited by ENAC, (Entidad Nacional de Acreditación), the Spanish accreditation body. The portfolio had grown significantly by that point: I was managing over 15 standards (ISO 17021-1 and ISO 17065). Then, in 2019, TQR (Technical, Quality, Risk) Head Office opened a position dedicated to food standards. It seemed like the perfect fit. So, I applied – and I got it!

In my role today, I ensure the maintenance of our UKAS (UK accreditation body) accreditation for food standards ISO 22000, FSSC 22000, and BRCGS. This accreditation is used worldwide; currently, around 80 of our global offices hold certificates.

What does the TQR team do?

The TQR Certification team, where I work, plays a crucial role in the company. We establish rules and processes that enable the wider team to deliver certification. We also support them in their day-to-day work and are there to answer questions if they face challenges.

What do you enjoy most about working in the food sector?

From an early age, I have always loved food. I love cooking – and eating – and new experiences centered around food.

This interest also exposed me to the topic of food safety, which really is essential. At university, I had the opportunity to learn more about food manufacturing, including the chemistry involved.

My university studies helped me learn more about how to manufacture food, the chemistry behind it and much more. Joining Bureau Veritas has given me the opportunity to make an impact along the entire food chain, from farm to fork. And I am proud that our work in certification ensures that people can buy safe food in the supermarket – for themselves, their families, and their friends.

What would you say to someone considering a career at BV?

Believe in what you do and strive every day to do your best. Trust your colleagues and work with them in a truly collaborative way. A career at BV is built together with the people around you. I would not be where I am without the support of my colleagues.
