From the High Seas to the Boardroom: Ankur Arora's Remarkable Journey at Bureau Veritas

Give us a quick introduction about you:

"I believe hard work has no substitute."

My name is Ankur Arora, an ex-seafarer and Captain with 22 years in the maritime industry who transitioned to the corporate world eight years ago. At sea, I faced numerous challenges, from major accidents to salvage operations, which have strengthened my resilience and dedication. My passion for ships and supporting the global shipping industry's diversity and outreach continues to fascinate me.

In a few words, could you describe your career path?

My career journey spans from the vast oceans to the corporate world. After graduating in Nautical Sciences, I began as a Junior Officer on board vessels, advancing to the rank of Captain. Eight years ago, I transitioned to the corporate world and currently serve at Bureau Veritas (BV) Marine & Offshore (M&O). Transitioning from life at sea, I took on shore-based roles, gaining expertise in commercial shipping.

"Together, we can accomplish remarkable results."

In January 2024, I joined Bureau Veritas M&O as Global Market Expert in the Head Office Commercial team, providing valuable insights and solutions to clients and stakeholders.

How could you describe your position and work at Marine & Offshore Team on BV?

As the Global Market Expert at BV M&O, my role is pivotal in shaping and driving our commercial strategy for tankers. I stay abreast of the latest market developments, contribute to growth strategies, and build strong relationships with industry leaders. Utilizing my deep understanding of tanker operations and profitability, I provide technical advisory services that enhance vessel performance and operational excellence.

Could you explain the M&O BV services alignment with sustainability goals?

Our M&O services are aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, supporting the maritime sector in navigating the energy transition. We offer expertise in alternative fuels, digital technologies, and vessel retrofits to enhance environmental and commercial performance.
