Bureau Veritas accredited for the ICAO’s CORSIA aviation emissions scheme

May. 28 2019

Paris, France, May 28, 2019 – Bureau Veritas Certification Holding SAS, a global leader in certification services, has received accreditation for the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) standard, through its UK Branch.

To date, the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) has approved only two bodies to validate compliance with CORSIA, which aims to help the ICAO achieve carbon-neutral growth from 2020 onwards.

Bureau Veritas is a world leader in certification for Aerospace with strong brand recognition throughout the industry’s supply chain. It also has long experience in sustainability and energy management, offering one of the widest ranges of sustainability standards of any certification body via its pioneering Circular+ offer. These credentials make Bureau Veritas uniquely placed to offer CORSIA audit services to airline companies.

“Developed by ICAO, a United Nations agency, CORSIA is an emission mitigation approach for the global airline industry, designed to address emissions from international air travel,” said Stéphane Ponthieux, Aerospace Market Manager at Bureau Veritas Certification. “It is estimated that CORSIA will mitigate around 2.5 billion metric tons of CO2 and generate over $40 billion in climate finance between 2021 and 2035. It has a crucial part to play in the fight against climate change”.
