Bureau Veritas and the ‘French Flag’ develop compliance approach for SeaOwl’s remotely-operated vessel project

Sep. 15 2020

Bureau Veritas has been working with the French Flag Register for ships to support and enable SeaOwl’s innovative remotely-operated vessel project.

Named ROSS - Remotely Operated Services at Sea, the concept and capability was successfully demonstrated last week on a SeaOwl vessel located off Toulon and operated from Paris.

The Department of Maritime Affairs (DAM – the French Ministry for the Sea) has supported this project from its inception, and has assisted the stakeholders in the development of a methodology that ensures a high level of safety and allows the certification of this very first remotely operated vessel in France.

The next steps for SeaOwl are to install its ROSS concept on newbuildings designed to provide services to offshore platforms.
