Bureau Veritas Secures SBTi Approval for Updated Scope 3 Methodology and 2030 Targets

Bureau Veritas is pleased to announce that the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has officially approved its upgraded Scope 3 methodology and the associated 2030 targets. 

To better understand and reduce our value chain emissions, we revised our Scope 3 calculation approach to adopt a more granular methodology. This gives us a clearer view of where emissions originate, makes it easier to identify the most effective decarbonization levers, and reflects more accurately the impact of our actions on the Group's carbon trajectory. 

This work involved restating our historical emissions to ensure consistency and comparability over time, as well as defining new Scope 3 targets aligned with the latest climate science. 

The SBTi's validation of both the methodology and the targets is an important milestone. It confirms the rigor of our approach and strengthens the credibility of our climate commitments. It also provides a solid foundation to accelerate our decarbonization efforts, working alongside our suppliers, clients and partners.

Bureau Veritas remains committed to transparency and to contributing to a low-carbon economy. We will continue to report on our progress towards our 2030 targets. 

About the SBTi 
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a global body enabling businesses to set ambitious emissions reduction targets in line with the latest climate science. It is focused on accelerating companies across the world to halve emissions before 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions before 2050. 

The initiative is a collaboration between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), World Resources Institute (WRI) and the Worldwide Fund for Nature (WWF) and one of the We Mean Business Coalition commitments. The SBTi defines and promotes best practices in science-based target-setting, offers resources and guidance to reduce barriers to adoption and independently assesses and approves companies’ targets.
