What was your role on this project?
I was the Business Unit sponsor for the project. I helped to define the business challenges and needs for the solution.
What was the most exciting thing about this project?
This project is totally new to the industry. While there are other “smart” systems that have been developed, they are all limits & rules-based. BV is the first to venture into true AI and machine learning for its solution.
What have you learnt working on this specific project?
The difference between Data and Information. Every business sits on loads and loads of data, but if it is not good, clean data, it is difficult to turn that data into information.
What challenges have you met and how did you overcome them?
Dealing with all the nuances of sample data interpretation. There are so many little details, what seems like a simple process can be quite complex. We were able to take each of the nuances and break them into simple classifications so that the application could better deal with them as a human analyst would as opposed to a machine.
If you had to sum up this project in one word, what would it be?
Trailblazing.
