Bureau Veritas & Circulor “Lead the Charge” – Ensuring Battery Passport Integrity and Sustainable Supply Chain Excellence

Jun. 18 2026

Bureau Veritas announces today a strategic collaboration with Circulor  to “Lead the charge” in support of organizations meeting requirements for battery traceability, digital battery passports, and responsible supply chain management.

The collaboration combines Bureau Veritas’ expertise in testing, inspection, certification and verification with Circulor’s digital traceability platform to help companies strengthen transparency, enhance due diligence, and prepare for regulations such as the EU Battery Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 and EU Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (Regulation (EU) 2024/1781).

The EU Battery Regulation (EU 2023/1542) mandates safety, performance, and 70 % recyclability for all batteries sold in the EU, requiring a digital “Battery Passport” that documents composition, production, and end of life data, along with annual compliance reporting; the EU Ecodesign Regulation (Regulation 2024/1781) forces product designers to meet minimum energy efficiency, sustainable material, durability, repairability, and end of life disassembly standards, all accompanied by clear labeling.

“Battery regulations and digital product passport requirements are reshaping expectations for transparency and traceability across global supply chains”, said Ken Smith, Vice President, Global Sustainability Transition Services at Bureau Veritas. “Through this collaboration, we bring together trusted verification and digital capabilities to support organizations in building robust, credible battery passport programs while navigating compliance with confidence."

According to Bureau Veritas’ Sustainability Trends report, over 1 in 5 organizations cite supply chain performance and traceability as key issues, highlighting the growing link between traceability requirements, risk management, and business resilience. As a result, companies face increasing complexity in managing data, ensuring visibility, and demonstrating compliance across global operations.

Together, Bureau Veritas and Circulor will jointly deliver integrated solutions to address these evolving needs, including:

  • Battery passport readiness and implementation

  • Supply chain traceability and verification

  • Carbon footprint and responsible sourcing assessments

  • Validation of data completeness and regulatory alignment

“Digital traceability and trusted data are becoming essential for companies operating in regulated battery value chains,” said Yue Jin Tay, SVP Global Sales, Circulor. “Our collaboration with Bureau Veritas will help organizations strengthen confidence in supply chain information while enabling practical and scalable implementation of battery passport and traceability requirements.”

The collaboration supports stakeholders across the battery ecosystem, from raw material processors to OEMs and energy storage providers. Anchored in Bureau Veritas’ Sustainability Solutions portfolio, including Transition Services and Green Objects, it supports organizations in transitioning business models and building and maintaining assets, products, and commodities that are green by design, while bridging compliance, risk management, and transformation.

Looking ahead, Bureau Veritas and Circulor will also explore opportunities related to digital product passports, sustainability data management, and evolving verification approaches to support international regulatory frameworks.
